    I’ve been using the app for about two weeks now and there is a lot to be said for this app. First of all the app is simple and easy to understand. The meditation lessons are short enough to do one every day. Sam guides you through the meditation with subtle directions and sometimes adds insights into the nature of consciousness in a very down to earth and rational manner. He seems to have a great understanding of the process of learning meditation, as questions that arrise during the sessions are almost always adressed within a few lessons. Besides the guided meditations there are also lessons during which different concepts are discussed. They are a welcome addition to the meditations. Great app, great guide, great lessons!

    I’ve tried pretty much every noteworthy meditation app in the App Store; from Andy’s Headspace to Kevin Rose’s Oak, which all have their own appealing features. However, because Sam Harris is both a neuroscientist and a philosopher he is perfectly equipped to provide a truly insightful guided meditation experience. Justifying heavy price tag. The unique thing about the app is the fact that Sam goes on the meditation journey alongside with you; practicing each session as you do. This gives each session a truly personal feel (rather than a prerecorded message like all other apps); coupled with his philosophic insights each session is unique and powerful - I often go back to relisten certain sessions depending on my mood. From a front-end design POV I think the app still has a long way to go. The app is split into two sections LESSONS and MEDITATION. In the LESSONS tab all the lessons are clearly labeled, but the MEDITATION tab is a simple list without any labels (only numbering) and it always opens on top of the list, so if you’re far in your practice you always need to scroll all the way down, which is made redundant by the fact that you can always find your next meditation on the HOME tab. Personally I don’t see the purpose of the MEDITATION tab as it stands today :/ Additional features I love is the fact that you can download both the Lessons and Guided Meditations; making them available offline. And you have the essential feature of a Self-Timer; allowing you to sit for however long you like. In the past I really saw meditation as something I “needed to do in the day” for my personal benefit. But with the Waking Up app for the first time I find myself actually looking FORWARD to sitting! I cannot stress enough how powerful this app truly is.

    The app is very nicely laid out and guides you through different levels of experience in meditation/mindfulness. Sam Harris (the author and narrator of this app) is a neuro-scientist with years of experience in the matter and lays things out very clearly, so there's no new age mumbo jumbo here - just straight facts and observations about human consciousness based on science and meditation practice. I cannot stress this enough - a well meaning attitude and perseverance are essential to get the best out of it, so be patient and kind to yourself and it can work wonders for the betterment of your general life quality. Especially if you are someone who experiences a lot of anxiety, distress and who's very self aware in the presence of others (in a self depreciating way) it can be very beneficial. I highly recommend it!

    This app finally got me to practice daily! Every day I’m exited to practice again which is something that hasn’t happened to me before in my meditation practice. I’ve been meditating off-and on for about 7 years now, but this is the very first time I’ve been actually been able of keeping the habit! : ) Furthermore, Sam Harris is really hitting the sweet spot insight-wise. Really intelligent and eloquent lessons and meditations Highly recommend!!

    To me Sam has the highest credibility. He has great humor and he is sincere and totally himself. I used headspace before, but once started waking up; there is a much greater learning curve in Sam’s app. Sam cracked the code of meditation and spirituality in general. Great app great guy, this helps you get a mental healthier lifestyle for sure!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
