  • Still time to undo the “improvements”

I’ve been using the Hours app to keep track of my hours spent at work for a good year now, and have been so satisfied with it that I decided to get the paid-for version when the devs made it so you can only create a pitiful number of trackers in the free version. As a surveyor I visit several job sites per day, with varying tasks on each of thoseand I have to track and report specified billable hours for the office, so being able to create a specific tracker for each task, per job site, was a real bonus. Since I have sites I visit more than once a week, and sites I visit maybe once a month, being able to archive unused trackers until I needed them again helped in keeping my main “desktop” lean and clean. Simply “adding” an already existing but archived tracker made it go “live” again. Wonderful! With the big “free version is now really only a bad trial” update, a LOT of the apps functionality (for my specific usecase, anyway) has sadly been ripped out. 1:Trying to add an archived tracker now simply gives a message that such a timer already exists, and to manually go into the archive to reactivate it again. The archive is non-orderable and seems to list in order of creation? No search function either. With 75/100 concurrent active job sites with up to 20 different bookable activities I have well over 500 trackers in there. It used to just work as it should, now it doesn’t. 2:when creating trackers, you used to only have to (optionally) link a project name to a client/contractor/etc once. Now you have to do that for every single tracker you create for that project name. Not linking to the client for any subsequent trackers makes those appear in a different colour in the overview bar, and causes it likely to not be listed under the correct client in the report. Having contacted the devs via the in-app option led to a speedy response from their end (fast, friendly and to the point), sadly not with the result I was hoping for, much to my disappointment. Even with all these nuisances, it is still the “best” hours tracker I have so far come across, so I will still recommend it. I would love to be able to designate a tracker colour per client rather than for each individual project as it is now. And I can only dream of some sort of geo-fencing capability being put in at some point in time.

Forcing account registration and limitations on existing users was despicable. The promise was that you could create unlimited timers in the free version. Not anymore. And if you want to access your previous data, you now have to create an account. I understand the need of being paid for development work. What I don’t accept is bait and switch tactics. If I’ll have to pay for a tracking app, I’ll go and give my money to someone else.
  • WTF.....why can't I just keep on using a free version?

After using the app for year, this morning a new release was installed blocking access to my existing data! You have to make a choice to use a paid subscription! Really disappointed! You should be able to make a choice without and not be forced to use a subscription. And you should always be allowed to access your own data!

Suddenly I can’t use the app without paying for a subscription and creating an account. All my timers are inaccessible, although I paid for the app some time ago! Uninstalled

App doesnt show pricing clearly on their website (had to google and find it in reviews). Also, app doesnt specify what features you will be left with when the one-month trial ends. Clear marketing techniques to lock people in a subscription. I wish the communication would be more direct since the app itself is great.

Once you subscribe to the pro app it is impossible to end it... How do I end my subscription?

The interface is easy. Just started using this to track my time efficiency. Does what I want it to, and looks pretty slick.

Asking 7,99 a month for an app that doesn’t even remember input field values...
